About our Adoption Program

Visit the Pet Rescue and Adoption Center at Animal Services to complete an application for the newest member of your family. If you're 18 years of age or older, stop by the reception counter, and a customer service representative will guide you through the process.

Our Net Pets area features our adoptable and lost pets.

The Pet Rescue and Adoption Center is ready to provide you with a companion now!
Adoption Process
horizontalbar

  1. If you are interested in adopting a pet from Orange County Animal Services, the first step is to come to the shelter and interact with the pet you wish to adopt.
  2. Once you have interacted with the pet, submit an adoption application and pay the adoption fees.
  3. Our customer service representatives will verify your address. Please note that it may be necessary to contact your landlord or the Orange County Property Appraiser.
  4. Some pets require special care, housing, and handling. To ensure an environment conducive to those needs, a home visit may be required prior to final approval of your adoption application. Pitbull, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman, and Chow Chow dog breeds require a mandatory home inspection.
  5. Once your application is approved, your pet will be ready to go home in 5-10 working days. This allows for health and temperament assessments to be conducted, and satisfies the hold time required under the Orange County Code.
  6. Please note that if an owner reclaims the pet you have requested to adopt, you can select another pet or receive a refund.
